A Fool’s Heart
A Fool’s Heart
A March hare skips the heavy rocks
Enchanted dogs ignore their knocks
And down the slope I stumble miles
A glimpse so rare looks back and smiles
I joked, she laughed with Bergman grace
And tumbled through a dream filled space
Her temple met my sweaty brow
I wonder where she's bounding now
A fool's heart jokes but can't tell lies
We'd walked a while past painted birds
Hung out to dry they murmured words
I waited, wishing I were bolder
A warm palm beckoned on my shoulder
Daft as a hatter’s comic face
Teased by spice clung on like lace
The gin and tonic gently slips
And as she speaks, I watch her lips
A fool's heart jokes but can't tell lies
The gate was open , well defined
Yet blurred, unclear to my mind
We held a moment, lost my nerve
To kiss the kiss that she deserved
Back at the roots the mangroves grope
For optimism's cousin hope
A silent flight on saintly clouds
Echoes a night from concrete crowds
A fool's heart jokes but can't tell lies
To touch her hand to find the rope
To lift my soul back up the slope
A wet dog looks for food and care
The tide went out he lost his hare
I search the stars through misty eyes
Ships in the night reach foreign skies
My stomach teased by butterflies
A fool's heart jokes but can't tell lies
A fool's heart jokes but can't tell lies
A fool's heart jokes and sometimes cries
